Injured patients present in differing physiological states and the experienced practitioner must be able to quickly resuscitate patients with limited data. During these highly charged events a stepwise approach is essential to determine who needs immediate operative intervention versus those who do not. This lecture reviews, by body system, the need for emergent versus non-emergent surgery in human trauma patients.
