Associate Dean for Professional Programs

Dr. Read has served as the Associate Dean for Professional Programs at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine since 2018. In this position she has led a major curricular redesign and a college accreditation visit, as well as leading and developing their Spectrum of Care pedagogical initiative. In her role, Dr. Read oversees one of the largest class sizes in the nation at a top three ranked college, alongside a talented team of staff and faculty who are responsible for the DVM students from admission through to transition into practice and she plays a key role in college leadership.
Dr. Read also served on the veterinary faculty at the University of Calgary for a decade where she acted as Clinical Skills Program Chair for eight years, Associate Dean Academic for two years, and as Interim Dean during a period of leadership transition. While directing the clinical skills program, Dr. Read developed and validated several simulator models with collaborators that were later commercialized by Veterinary Simulator Industries. Dr. Read is an internationally renowned veterinary educator who has delivered over 70 invited talks and workshops, published over 40 peer-reviewed manuscripts, authored several book chapters, and edited a textbook, Veterinary Clinical Skills.
Dr. Read currently serves on the AAVMC COVE (Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges Council for Outcomes Education). Participating in this CBVE (Competency-Based Veterinary Education) initiative since 2015, Dr. Read has been part of a small group that is leading and changing veterinary education through a global effort. Dr. Read also served as President of the American Association of Equine Practitioners in 2022.
