Dr. Townsend grew up in Australia and completed a veterinary degree at the University of Sydney in 2004. After moving to the UK, Dr. Townsend worked in a small animal clinic before completing a rotating small animal internship at the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket, UK. Dr. Townsend worked in a surgical research laboratory at The Ohio State University, followed by a fellowship in Comparative Surgery in State University of New York in Syracuse. This led Dr. Townsend back to The Ohio State University to complete a small animal surgery residency and master’s degree in Comparative Veterinary Medicine. After two more years at The Ohio State University as clinical faculty, Dr. Townsend began a tenure-track position in Soft Tissue Surgery at Oregon State University in 2014 and became tenured in 2020. Areas of interest include soft tissue surgery with an emphasis on surgical oncology, endocrine surgery, animal models and minimally invasive surgery.
