Dr. Burke is a 2010 graduate of the University of California, Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine. She completed an internship in Large Animal Surgery at the New Bolton Center, University of Pennsylvania in 2011, an orthopedics fellowship in the Comparative Orthopedic Research Laboratory at PENN in 2012, and a Large Animal Surgery Residency at the New Bolton Center in 2015. She completed her Emergency and Critical Care Fellowship at The Ohio State University in 2021. Dr. Burke has worked at NC State since July of 2015, initially as a Clinical Instructor in Equine Emergency, and since December 2018 as an Assistant and now Associate Professor of Equine Emergency. Dr. Burke’s research interests focus on maximizing outcomes and minimizing postoperative morbidity in horses after emergency abdominal surgery for colic.
