Dr. Gonzalez grew up in a town called Kissimmee, Florida. Dr. Gonzalez spent many of his summers in Puerto Rico with his extended family and is a fluent Spanish speaker. Dr. Gonzalez first became interested in horses while working at a local horse boarding facility in St. Cloud, Florida; where he learned how to ride both English and Western disciplines and husbandry of horses. During this time Dr. Gonzalez started working as a veterinary technician with the local equine veterinarian and a small animal veterinary clinic. These experiences further solidified for him that he was interested in becoming a large animal veterinarian and research experiences while in veterinary school drove him down the path of equine surgery. Following graduation from veterinary school at North Carolina State University; Dr. Gonzalez finished an internship at Brown Equine Hospital in Somerset, PA. He then went on to finish his surgical residency at Mississippi State University in 2024 and moved to Oklahoma to work at Oakridge Equine Hospital as an associate. Dr. Gonzalez’s professional interest include arthroscopic surgery, upper airway surgery, lameness, colic surgery, sinus surgeries, and advanced imaging (computed tomography or CT).
