Farm animal surgery has dramatically evolved in the last decades and is facing new challenges. Of remark is the evolution seen in the patients’ demographic. The farm animal surgeon is more and more required to treat the show cow, the companion small ruminant or pot belly pig, and the zoo or research animal, while the commercial cow or pig are in a steady decline due to a shift in production systems. During this seminar, the speakers shed light on this ever-evolving field of farm animal surgery and will examine the factors contributing to this shift and discuss the implications for farm animal surgeons, explore the unique considerations and surgical techniques involved in working with these varied species, and present solutions for staying relevant and adapting our practices to meet the evolving demands of the industry.
