Pancreatic surgery has historically been limited to partial pancreatectomy performed via an open approach. The anatomy of the pancreas and the important structures that travel through it, especially on the right side have dissuaded surgeons from aggressive resections. This lecture reporst recent data on outcomes in patients undergoing pancreatic surgery as well as new minimally invasive approaches to partial pancreatectomy. The use of near-infrared technology as an intraoperative diagnostic tool during pancreatic surgery is discussed.
