As large animal surgeons, we encounter a variety of challenging cases. For most of these, we rely on our training or the literature to accomplish our work, and many cases become routine for us. Veterinarians working at the zoo possess extraordinary knowledge of different species and disciplines. However, certain conditions require specific expertise, such as surgical procedures. This lecture reviews several cases performed at the zoo where teamwork and surgical expertise in large animals allow us to successfully treat critical conditions.
