Managing people is a specific skill set that can be learned, improved upon, and often required within our daily tasks as surgeons whether we want to or not! We may be a medical director with responsibilities that include managing other doctors or a surgeon who needs to manage the team of individuals that support the work we do daily with patients and clients. Incorporating some of the skills of coaching and mentoring into managing other individuals’ performances can help provide encouragement for their development as well as hold people accountable for that development. This lecture provides a framework that encompasses those skills to manage associates, your veterinary team members, and even clients whether you have a formal leadership position or informally manage the team.
