Dr. Budsberg received his DVM from Washington State University. He completed an internship at Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston and his residency in small animal surgery at Michigan State University. Dr. Budsberg spent time at Louisiana State University before joining the faculty at the University of Georgia. He is currently a Professor Emeritus at UGA. His research focuses on Canine Gait Analysis, Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs and other analgesic agents for the treatment of chronic pain, and the use of Evidence Based Medicine applications in Orthopedics. He has been honored with several awards during his career including the AVMA Career Achievement in Canine Research Award, the Pfizer Animal Health Award for Research Excellence twice, the AVMA-AKC Excellence in Canine Research Award, the AVMA – Fido Award, and the World Small Animal Veterinary Association – Hill's Pet Mobility Award. He has been recognized by Washington State University as an Distinguished Veterinary Alumnus and by Michigan State University as a Distinguished Postdoctoral Veterinary Alumnus.
