Surgical nursing of the orthopedic patient requires the veterinary technician to be knowledgeable about all aspects of the procedure. Understanding the anatomy and physiology of healing, the implants to be used, as well as performance of the procedure all impact the ability of the technician to provide quality patient care. Information provided exposes the attendees to the decision-making tree used by the veterinary surgeon when choosing to repair various stifle conditions and how healing occurs when bones are involved. Information about orthopedic implants and bone graft options highlights all of the options available and when each may be considered for use.
