In recent years, the mobile approach to veterinary surgical practice has gained much in popularity and economic footprint as surgeons across the spectrum — from early career to seasoned practitioner—have found the model a compelling alternative to traditional “brick and mortar” referral practice. While many considerations translate across the range of delivery models for specialty surgical care, the mobile approach is peculiar in a number of ways that beg for careful reflection and planning. The issues raised range in scope — clinical, logistical, relational, financial, legal, and ethical. In this session, we shall focus on the latter with a practical consideration of important ethical questions and concerns that colleagues opting for the mobile model are apt to face.
