As surgeons trying to reset the wound healing process, it is essential to recognize the factors affecting healing and decide when a wound is ready for a flap, graft, or closure to optimize treatment success. Infection, in particular, can hinder wound healing, thwarting the surgeon's efforts. With antibiotic-resistant infections becoming increasingly prevalent, practicing judicious use of antibiotics and employing alternative drug delivery to prevent resistance development while controlling infection is critical. This lecture focuses on an evidence-based approach to alternative drug delivery and other strategies to overcome surgeons' clinical challenges in healing an infected wound.
